Activities and videos

This weekend we took Cuddles for a 2 mile walk on Sat. in very nice weather and a 4 mile walk around a lake on Sun, also in great weather. Did we bring the camera to capture all the fabulous shots? Nope. Instead this morning I go out in 14 degree weather and take pictures. Cuddles also helped us watch a couple of movies over the weekend. He loves to snuggle up on the couch.

Cuddles saying he will go for a walk even if it is only 14 degrees. "Can we, huh, huh?"

I'm freezing but took some videos anyways. In this one Cuddles demonstrates his recall. He is awesome! Will come from anywhere at any time. We have not formally trained this. He just naturally wants to be with you. In fact getting him to leave your side for picture taking takes some patience because he likes to stick right with you.

Cuddles finds a completely frozen toy. It was like an ice block as we had rain that froze.

Cuddles loves to play in the snow. In the absence of snow he figures frozen grass is the next best thing.

Cuddles playing again with the toy. After this we were both cold so came right in.

Cuddles sparkles as an only dog

Cuddles is joyful and sparkling when there are no other dogs around. He and I were playing a nice game of fetch last night with a toy. When one of my dogs came in the house he went to investigate. My dog came in the living room and picked up the dropped toy. Cuddles then came in, saw my dog with the toy and went to get it. A big fight broke out. As a result were back to keeping him isolated from my dogs.

However I must say that he has shown only joy and friendliness to people. Now that he is the only foster he spends time in the house alone with us. He prances around in very high spirits but is still wonderfully behaved.

Cuddles is out and about with my dogs

Yesterday and last night Cuddles was either with me in the house on leash or in a crate in the same room with me. My dogs were out and about. Today all three are out and about in the house together and things are nice and calm. We also took all three for a leash walk together and everyone got along. Cuddles is not initiating play but just going along with my two. He is a wonderful dog who is going to make some lucky owner very happy.

Cuddles is best suited for someone who wants a dog's companionship but not an over energetic dog that is hard to train or that one that has to be kept on top of all the time. Cuddles would be great with a low key person who just wants to enjoy being a dog owner and doesn't want to worry about being alpha or a leader or having to discipline a dog. Cuddles will automatically put his owner(s) on a pedestal and his natural good behavior will please his people.

Cuddles is looking for love

Cuddles is doing very well at getting along with my dog Blossom. In addition our other foster got adopted last night and Cuddles seems to be quite perky about it. As a result I would have to say that although Cuddles can get along with other dogs and greets them appropriately on leash he may be happiest with some people all to himself. He likes both males and females as he is good with both myself and my husband. He really just wants some folks to love him for the great dog he is.

Cuddles playing with Robin

Video of Cuddles and Robin playing.

The pink toy was very popular today.

Cuddles is so cute carrying it.

But now Robin has it.

And it gets passed back to Cuddles.

After a hard play session it was inside for a nap.

Dog update

Yesterday at the pet store another dog, about the size of Sunshine came trotting out of the back room. Cuddles did fine with that dog. They sniffed each other, circled around, spent some time together and then another dog came in and the pet store dog was off to greet that one.

Today my house cleaner let our two fosters and our two dogs all out before she left. I had asked her not to but she must not have understood me. So when I got home all 4 were in the backyard. When they saw me they all came running up. I inspected all 4 for injuries and everyone was OK. The only dog with saliva on his neck was Cuddles and that likely came from he and Robin playing together as Robin often grabs his neck. Neither of my dogs had any saliva on them so I can only assume there were no altercations.

Then some folks walked by on the walking path before I got everyone sorted out again. All four dogs took off to run the fence with them. No one fought. I did then gather Cuddles and Robin up and put them in the house but I'm happy to report that all seemed fine with the four of them together.

With Cuddles I still have to say with other dogs, it depends, but were getting more and more data that shows he gets along with other dogs. He may have just been a bit traumatized from being in the shelter and that now that he is more comfortable he feels more confident.

Cuddles day out

Cuddles went to the mall with me today. He enjoyed getting treats from some Heeler fans and meeting people. Then we went to the pet store where he did some shopping for treats on his own.

Just browsing.

Ooh, these smell really good.

We did have one unexpected incident at the pet store. Cuddles who has never over the entire month we've had him gone in the house raised his leg and peed on a bag of dog food in the store. Several explanations are possible. Another dog could have peed on it before him. Another is that we seldom see Cuddles go to the bathroom. He most often runs off behind the bushes and goes. Sometimes he goes on walks but not often. Prior to the pet store he was at the outdoor mall where he didn't pee on any of the bushes or anything. I was pretty surprised because we had been there a long time. He may have interpreted the outdoor mall as being indoors and held it. We were also at the pet store for quite some time. It may be that he just got to where he had held it too long and had to go. Very hard to say. However I'm still confident in saying he is house trained. But I do add the caveat that he should be watched in pet stores.

Cuddles hasn't found a home yet

Cuddles is still looking for his forever home. He is best suited with some who wants a dog to cuddle and baby. He loves to be hugged. Physically he is in great shape and would enjoy hiking, walking and running in the yard.

Out for a stroll in the yard.

Yeah! Someone to cuddle me while they watch football.

I'll give him a kiss to thank him.

I can be a fan.

There's foster mom taking a picture.

Completely trustworthy in the house

Cuddles is completely trustworthy in the house. I've been able to have him out for free run on a limited basis. He hasn't soiled the house at all. In addition he hasn't destroyed anything. We have lots of toys on the floor so the dogs always have something to chew on when they want. Unfortunately he doesn't get along with my little male dog so he is spending more time in the crate than I would like for a foster dog.

He is very good in the crate, doesn't destroy the bedding or make noise, although I worry with all the random times I'm putting him into it that he is starting to feel a bit oppressed as when we got him he would go in easily. Now he rolls over and shows me his tummy with his tail between his legs and I feel bad about doing it.

A good dog like Cuddles shouldn't be in the crate at all.

Especially when he makes such a good foot warmer!

Cuddles and other dogs

Cuddles came in with another dog that he gets along beautifully with. However our attempts to introduce him to my dogs have failed. He is not enamored with them. To be fair my dogs are not the friendliest duo. However it should be noted to potential adopters that Cuddles may or may not get along with existing dogs in the household. He has been neutered and that may help him accept other males in the future.

When walking my dogs Cuddles saw me leaving with them and decided to go under our fence gate. We are reinforcing it today with a metal bar but any potential adopters with a fence may want to be sure everything is shut tight. Thankfully he did not go over our 4 ft fence.

A very cold new year

Yesterday and today the temps have been in the single digits so since I'm a cold wimp I stood inside and took pictures of them through the windows.

Cuddles is so sweet. He always enjoys some attention.

What a cute face!
